Students (ages 14-18) across the country are encouraged to enter the NBCU On The Set National Essay Contest where ten students will win the opportunity to participate in a television production internship with NBC Universal Cable.
Students are asked to submit a 250-500 word essay based upon questions found in the educator kit (questions are to be determined).
Essays will be accepted from February 1 through April 30, 2007. Entries should be postmarked by Wednesday, May 2, 2007 and should be received in the NBCU On The Set offices by Monday, May 7, 2007. Forwarding information will be found on the entry form.
JUDGING
The judging panel will consist of executives from NBC Universal Cable, NAMIC and The Cable Center. Essays will be judged upon creativity, clarity and their interest in television. Winners will be announced the week of May 22, 2007.
NBC UNIVERSAL TELEVISON PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP
Students will be flown with a parent or guardian to New York City, where they will work with television professionals to learn the principles of television production. During the week, they will conceive, script, direct, shoot, edit and market their own video or public service announcement. In addition, participants will interact with an NBC Universal production, where students can see and experience a live television production.
At the end of the week, the students will screen their work at a post-internship event that will include the students, their parents, as well as television and press professionals and members of the cable community.
SCHOOL GRANTS
The schools of the students winning the National Essay Contest will be awarded a $1000 grant to further the development of media arts and interactive curriculum. The grant will be awarded on behalf of NBC Universal Cable and the local cable operator hosting the program in the market. |
